Bret Ahnell is executive vice president, based in FM Global’s Johnston, R.I. USA corporate offices, with responsibility for various divisions within the company, including underwriting and reinsurance, engineering and research, claims and enterprise learning, information services and marketing. Prior to his current role, he served as senior vice president, division manager, Western Division, Dallas, Texas, USA, since 1985 where he oversaw insurance and engineering operations in Los Angeles and San Francisco, Calif., USA; Dallas, Texas, USA; Latin America and the forest products industry worldwide. Prior to that appointment in 2005, Ahnell served as vice president and operations manager, Dallas operations. Previously, he served as an account executive and as a district manager in Houston, Texas. In 2000, Business Insurance magazine recognized Ahnell as one of the industry’s future leaders. He joined the company as a loss prevention consultant in 1987. A graduate of the University of Arizona, Tucson, Ariz., USA, with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Ahnell holds the CPCU designation from the American Institute of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters.
