Betsy M. Taylor
Cultural anthropologist

Betsy Taylor is a cultural anthropologist who has worked with many action projects for community-driven, sustainable development in Appalachia and South Asia–with a particular concern for regions directly affected by coal and other extractive industries. She is co-author (with Herbert Reid) of Recovering the Commons: Democracy, Place, and Global Justice (Urbana: University of Illinois Press, 2010). She writes about environmental and social justice movements, democratic planning & participatory research, the commons, democratic reclamation of academe / professions. Betsy Taylor is currently Research Scientist in the Dept. of Religion and Culture at Virginia Tech. She was appointed as an alternate member of the USEITI Multistakeholder Group in December 2012 by the Secretary of the US Department of Interior.
