Dr. Brian Harke

Dean of Students, University of Southern California, School of Cinematic Arts

Dr. Brian Harke is a leader in education who draws on extensive experience from his work in both the corporate and academic sectors. He is recognized by leaders in both sectors and the press as an expert in the area of personal and professional development of college students. He is an expert contributor to the Huffington Post and is regularly called upon by the media to provide insight about programs related to college success. Dr. Harke is currently the Dean of Students in the University of Southern California, School of Cinematic Arts. Dr. Harke began his professional career in the advertising industry where he served in a number of creative roles developing and producing marketing campaigns and short format films for advertising agencies including of Foote Cone and Belding, Ogilvy & Mather, and Bayer Bess. He has produced award winning commercials and marketing campaigns for Disney Inc., Microsoft, Proctor & Gamble, Louis Vuitton, Visa, Wilson Sports, American Express and many others. As a result of his success in the advertising industry, Dr. Harke was recruited by LVMH- Moet Hennessey Louis Vuitton to head up their online marketing division. He was responsible for the development and launch of the new brand position, strategic partnerships and managed a $21M budget, marketing firms, directors, photographers, and a staff of 20. At LVMH, Dr. Harke realized his true passion rests in helping younger employees develop professionally. While creating leadership and professional skills programs for his staff, he decided to pursue his Master’s Degree and then his Doctorate of Education. It was during this period that he decided to accept a fulltime position in Academia where he could focus on his passion of student service and professional development. Prior to joining the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Dr. Harke served as Assistant Dean in the School of Business and Management at University of San Francisco. There he created and implemented several professional development programs and initiatives to help facilitate students' entrance into the professional world. His experience further includes assignments at University of California Berkeley, St. Mary’s College, and JFK University. Dr. Harke has also assisted high school and college students by coaching them on the skills and tools needed to succeed in college. Dr. Harke received his Doctorate in Education from the University of San Francisco, his Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology/College Student Services from St. Mary’s College, and his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Harke’s research, teaching experience and interests include professional development, college student success programs, life skills, change management, and leadership skills. He is a contributing writer and expert to the Huffington Post, noodle.org, US News and World Reports and numerous other publications. He also shares his expertise through speaking engagements at professional events, high schools and colleges.
