Iraq War Veteran, Truman National Security Project Defense Council Member

Bishop M. Garrison, Jr., known to most as BJ, originally hails from Lexington, S.C. With his mother a former collegiate English instructor and a lifetime educator, BJ quickly gained an interest in both reading and creative writing around the age of nine. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point graduating in 2002. He served two one-year long tours in Iraq with the U.S. Army’s 3rd Army Calvary Regiment, also known as the “Brave Rifles,” and is the recipient of two Bronze Stars, a Meritorious Service Medal, and a Combat Action Badge. After his time in the Army he attended and graduated from the William and Mary School of Law in Williamsburg, Va. Recently, he completed work with the Obama-Biden reelection campaign as the Director of Constituency Outreach and the Director of Veterans Outreach for the Commonwealth of Virginia. He currently resides in Arlington, Va.
