Clarence Haynes has worked for years as an editor and writer in a variety of publishing venues. He graduated from Columbia University with a double concentration in psychology and representations of race, gender and sexuality in literature.

Upon graduating, Clarence served as a copy editor and freelance writer for the Long Island/Queens-based newspaper Newsday. Subsequently, he's worked as an editor with the teen publishing organization Youth Communication and an associate editor of both fiction and nonfiction with the imprint Harlem Moon and the Doubleday Broadway Publishing Group at Random House. He has continued to take on projects with both individual clients and companies in a variety of book genres, including fiction (literary, commercial and sci-fi/fantasy), memoir and cultural criticism.

Clarence has written for The Source, Publishers Weekly, Giant Magazine, City Limits, and thegrio.com, among other publications.
