A veteran scholar and peace activist, David Cortright writes and speaks on nuclear disarmament, the Iraq War, economic sanctions and nonmilitary strategies for defeating terrorism. He has served as consultant or adviser to the United Nations, international think tanks and the foreign ministries of numerous countries. As a soldier in Vietnam, he spoke out for peace and organized demonstrations among fellow soldiers against the war. He later served as executive director of SANE, the Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy. He has taught at Notre Dame since 1989.
