David LaFevor

David LaFevor is a Nashville native and for the last fifteen years has traveled extensively in Latin America, Europe, North Africa, and the American South. Several fellowships, Fulbright and Watson among them, have generously funded this work, travel, and writing. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Latin American History and Digital Humanities at the University of Texas Arlington. His photography is driven by questions of race, identity, modernity, and violence. These are the same topics that inform his academic writing, primarily on Cuba and Mexico.
In the next few years, he will be researching and shooting in Cuba to document and interpret the challenges that Cubans will face in navigating the influx of ideas, technology, and people that are beginning weigh heavily on politics and culture there.
