Dr. Ion Jinga
Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Romania to the UN, New York
Before joining the Foreign Service, Ambassador Ion Jinga has worked as a physicist engineer in a research institute in Nuclear Physics. He studied Physics and Law at University of Bucharest, graduated the National School for Political and Administrative Studies in Bucharest and the College of Europe in Bruges (Belgium), followed a NATO research fellowship for two years and specialized in international affairs at the Leeds University (United Kingdom). He received his PhD in Law in 1999.
He joined the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1992. His tasks included Deputy-Head of Mission and Chargé d’affaires a.i. at the Mission of Romania to the EU (Brussels), Director General for European Union Affairs within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Bucharest) and member of the Romanian Delegation to the Convention on the Future of Europe (Brussels). He is (co)author of five books and more than 100 articles, and was an associate professor at the National School for Political and Administrative Studies in Bucharest and at the Diplomatic Academy in Bucharest.
Dr. Ion Jinga represented Romania as Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium (April 2003 – March 2008), to the United Kingdom o Great Britain and Northern Ireland (March 2008 - August 2015) and since August 2015 he is the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations in New York.
