Dr. Jason Johnson

Professor of Political Science at Hiram College and author of the book 'Political Consultants and Campaigns: One Day to Sell'

Dr. Jason Johnson is the author the new book Political Consultants and Campaigns: One Day to Sell. He is currently a Professor of political science and communication at Hiram College in Northeast Ohio, and serves as Politics Editor for The Source magazine. He is a frequent contributor to TheLoop21.com.

Professor Johnson has extensive media and public speaking experience in topics ranging from pop culture to electoral politics. Dr. Johnson has been active in politics for many years. He has worked as a campaign manager and assistant state director in a series of legislative campaigns in South Carolina, Maryland and Virginia. Internationally, Johnson worked on the 2001 London mayoral race, and served as an international election observer during Mexico’s turbulent 2006 and 2009 elections.

In 2007, he was an honored guest of the Independent Electoral Commission in Johannesburg, South Africa during the parliamentary elections. Professor Jason Johnson is a frequently quoted guest and political commentator: in print, television, radio and online. Dr. Johnson has been quoted as an expert on politics by The Hill, the Cincinnati Enquirer, Akron Beacon Journal, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He has also appeared in the online editions of Essence Magazine and Black Enterprise. Johnson is a frequent television commentator locally, nationally and internationally. He is a regular commentator on Al Jazeera English and has appeared on the international news channel Russia Today, The O’Reilly Factor on Fox News Channel and multiple appearances on CNN. On the radio, Professor Johnson has been a featured guest on stations from coast to coast, including multiple stints on National Public Radio affiliates WCPN and WHYY, as well as appearances on NPR’s Morning Edition. Johnson’s weekly oped column appears in the Chicago Defender, the Michigan Chronicle, the New Pittsburgh Courier, and the Memphis Tri-State Defender. Professor Johnson is a graduate of the University of Virginia and received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina.
