Emily Matson

Co-founder, Emi-Jay

Emily Matson, the “Emi “in Emi-Jay, considers fashion her first love. Along with her friend, Julianne Goldmark, the two California teens founded Emi-Jay, Inc, the unique hair accessories brand in 2009 as a result of their love for fashion and the growing trend of hair accessories and headbands. The creative duo produced a simple yet chic and versatile hair tie that does not dent hair and is the perfect accessory to any outfit. Unlike the traditional hair tie, Emi-Jay hair ties and headbands were created to resemble a satin bow that won’t snap or untie. The accessories have grown to appeal to an array of customers worldwide, including being featured in over 118 Nordstrom stores and a 2012 brand partnership with fashion house Splendid, all while maintaining a wide fan base from A-list celebrities to children and beyond.

Having interned in the fashion closet at O, the Oprah Magazine, and in L’Wren Scott’s showroom in Paris, Emily is incredibly career savvy at such a young age. Currently a senior at the Buckley School, the oldest co-educational independent day school in Los Angeles, Emily has attended Buckley since the age of three. And with a profound passion for school and the arts, Emily’s hobbies include reading, traveling and taking part in anything creative. With a life-long love of museums, coupled with a summer internship in Paris, her love of the arts is brought into every collection she works on at Emi-Jay. With a self-professed classic style, Emily has an eye on the latest fashion trends and her current favorite Emi-Jay collection to wear is the neutral pearl pack mixed with the neon pack.

With the 2013 Emi-Jay partnership of Step Up Women’s Network Young Luminaries Program, Emily will continue her active involvement in the community through mentoring young woman to achieve college and career goals.

At her young age, Emily has already achieved a tremendous amount, and she attributes this to her grandmother, a life-long role model. Working hard to continue her success, Emily envisions that Emi-Jay will continue to morph into a brand that expands to plethora of verticals include additional accessories and beauty. With endless ideas for Emi-Jay, it is safe to say Emily will always have wanderlust to explore and create!
