Former High School Teacher
Erin Macke began teaching at her alma mater, an all-girl Catholic high school in Chicago, in 2009 after graduating with a Master’s in Education. In the spring of 2011, her employer refused to renew her teaching contract after learning that she had counseled an LGBT student who expressed suicidal actions, and that Erin, herself, is a lesbian.
Erin now lives in the Northwest suburbs with her wife and works in customer service. She opted to step away from the educational field, until the culture was more accepting of her lifestyle and family. She hopes to return to the classroom in the future.
