Francis X. Suarez

Candidate for mayor of Miami

On November 17th 2009, Francis X. Suarez was sworn in as commissioner of District 4, a sprawling district which runs from SW 69th Ave. to SW 17th Ave. and from NW 7th Street toU.S. 1. He was reelected to a four-year term in 2011.

Commissioner Suarez was born and raised in Miami. The oldest of four siblings, he was born into a family where, according to the commissioner, “being socially conscious was kind of a requirement.” Commissioner Suarez attended La Salle High School before obtaining his B.S. in finance from Florida International University, where he graduated in the top ten percent of his class. In 2005, Commissioner Suarez received his law degree, with honors, from the Frederic G. Levin College of Law at the University of Florida. As a law student, Commissioner Suarez was selected for the honors internship program at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Miami Branch.

Prior to running for public office, Commissioner Suarez, an attorney, established a law practice focusing primarily on real estate and corporate transactions. He also founded Edge Title Company, Inc., a successful real-estate and title firm. Commissioner Suarez began his law career as an associate at the Miami law firm of Haley, Sinagra, Paul andToland, PA., where he specialized in commercial litigation matters and general transactional cases. He then went on to serve as general counsel to Doctors Management Group, a private organization, which provides consulting services for those in the medical field. Commissioner Suarez is a member of the Florida Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association.

Commissioner Suarez is involved in a number of civic and governmental organizations. He currently serves as Chairman of the Midtown Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and isa board member of the Omni CRA, the South East Overtown CRA, the Miami-Dade County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority (MSEA), the Greater Miami Visitors and Conventions Bureau (GMVCB), Alliance for Aging, Inc., Miami Behavioral Center, Inc., and Spectrum Programs, Inc. Commissioner Suarez is also a member of the executive board of the Miami-Dade County League of Cities.

Proud of his Miami roots, Commissioner Suarez is committed to raising the standards of the community that watched him grow up. “It is an honor and a privilege to serve the residents of District 4 and the City of Miami, at large. Together we will move forward in a new direction.”

Commissioner Suarez lives in Miami with his wife Gloria Fonts Suarez.
