Giovanni Pitruzzella

Chairman, Italian Competition and Market Authority

Giovanni Pitruzzella was appointed chairman of Italy's Competition and Market Authority in November 2011. He has been a full professor of constitutional law since 1994, first at the University of Cagliari and subsequently at the University of Palermo. Before that, from 1986 to 1993, he was an associate professor of institutions of public law. He practiced as an administrative attorney for approximately 20 years. In 2006, he was appointed a member of the Strike Regulatory Authority (for implementation of the law on strikes in essential public services), which he then presided over from 2009 to 2011.
