Heather Schoenfeld, Ph.D, is an Assistant Professor of Legal Studies and Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University. She is the author of over a dozen articles and essays on historical and contemporary systems of criminal punishment. Her forthcoming book, Building the Prison State: Race and the Politics of Mass Incarceration (University of Chicago Press) looks at the rise of mass incarceration in Florida between 1950 and 2015.
