Jai Tiggett

Writer and producer.

jai tiggett is a writer and producer who’s worked in film, television, and new media in New York and Los Angeles. Her work has appeared on Colorlines, Takepart, Clutch, Cinematiq Magazine, and others, and she is currently the Associate Editor of Shadow And Act on Indiewire.

jai is the producer of Little Brother, a 10-year documentary series which has been broadcast on Doc Channel, distributed by Third World Newsreel, and was awarded a project grant from the Open Society Foundation’s Campaign for Black Male Achievement.

Most recently, she worked on the feature films Through A Lens Darkly by Thomas Allen Harris (2014 Sundance Film Festival, Berlin Film Festival), Jake Kornbluth’s Inequality For All featuring Robert Reich (2013 Sundance Special Jury Award), and Jill Soloway’s feature directorial debut Afternoon Delight (2013 Sundance Directing Award).

As an entertainment writer, she has covered film, television, pop culture, and social justice, and has interviewed noted artists including Spike Lee, Kerry Washington, Lupita Nyong’o, Denzel Washington, Danai Gurira, Anthony Mackie, Alfre Woodard, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jesse Williams, Haile Gerima, Stephanie Allain, Kevin Hart, Darrell Roodt, Bill Duke, David Oyelowo and others.

As a film curator, she has produced screenings at Brooklyn’s BAMcinematek and the world renowned Harlem Stage, screening the early works of directors including Tanya Hamilton (Night Catches Us), Ava DuVernay (Middle of Nowhere), Yoruba Richen (The New Black), Issa Rae (The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl), Terence Nance (An Oversimplification of Her Beauty), and more.
