James Clifford served in the United States Army for thirty years, twenty-eight of those as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Soldier, in positions of increasing responsibility in the Continental United States, Europe, and Southwest Asia. He is a veteran of Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. He retired in 2006 as the Command Sergeant Major of the 52d Ordnance Group (EOD). In that position he was the Army's senior EOD noncommissioned officer and longest continuous serving EOD soldier at that time. Since retiring Mr. Clifford has been a contractor and civil service employee of the United States Army. He is currently assigned to U. S. Army Forces Command in Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Clifford is the author of nearly 100 published articles, commentaries, and book reviews on military and historical topics. He was also the military advisor to the Academy Award nominated motion picture, The Hurt Locker.
