James W. Graham

Author, Victura: the Kennedys, a Sailboat, and the Sea

James W. Graham has worked in public affairs, communications and politics for more than 30 years. His recent book, Victura: the Kennedys, a Sailboat, and the Sea, won widespread praise in national media and sailing magazines, and last year was translated into German and published as Der Kurs der Kennedys. It was called “exciting, heartbreaking and fascinating” by the Chicago Book Review and was a Chapter-A-Day selection of Wisconsin Public Radio, read over 10 days on 28 stations. Best-selling historian Michael Beschloss, writing in the New York Times about Graham’s book, noted that John F. Kennedy’s experience as young sailor was thought “absolutely indispensable” in saving his life during World War II. Graham was a senior adviser to former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar and has been a public affairs consultant to not-for-profit organizations, economic development interests, corporations and, most recently, a national retailer and health care provider. He earned his graduate and master's degrees from Drake University. He, his wife and son sail their boat Venturous out of Wilmette Harbor, north of Chicago.
