Dr. Jamie C. Williamson is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator and President of Amity Mediation Workshop, LLC. , which provides a unique approach to family mediation on Florida's Emerald Coast. With a doctorate in interpersonal communication and family relationships, Jamie Williamson authors the blog “Work it Out”, which provides guidance to couples trying to improve the quality of their relationship and remain friendly, whether they stay together or not. She also is a frequent contributor for HuffPost and SheSavvy. Jamie's strengths include her extensive professional experience, her deep understanding of relationships, and her ethic of care, all of which come together as she empowers couples to simplify and de-stress the divorce process, remain friendly during and after the divorce, and most importantly, to resolve issues in a way that serves the needs of all involved, especially the children. Dr. Jamie C. Williamson, now a resident of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, joined the mediation profession after a 30-year career in higher education. She began her academic career as a faculty member teaching and conducting research on personal and professional relationships. Her primary interest is communication during relationship development and dissolution, as well as the predicaments that create relationship distress such as conflict, deception, jealousy, and communication about sex. Early in her career, Jamie C.Williamson was a communication professor at the University of Florida and the University of West Florida. Later, she served as a communication professor and dean at Saint Louis University; as Provost and vice president for academic affairs at Baker University, Millikin University, and Butler University; and, as president of Winthrop University. She also provided thought leadership and directed the Executive Leadership Group at the American Council on Education (ACE), in Washington D.C. Jamie C. Williamson earned her doctorate from the University of Arizona. Her scholarship in the area of interpersonal communication is widely published and she has a national reputation in higher education. Jamie also has been the recipient of awards for professional achievement, community service, teaching excellence, scholarship, and mentoring over the course of her professional career.
