Jen Fry

Let's talk about the topics you aren't supposed to talk about at the dinner table: Race, politics, and sexuality

Jen Fry had over 15 years of collegiate coaching experience before making the decision to change careers and take a position outside of athletics. This new position of Program Coordinator for Domestic Merit Scholarships at Duke University allows her to work with college aged students as well as follow her passion of race, equality, and LGBT rights. She has had coaching stints at Elon University, University of Illinois, and Washington State University just to name a few. While at the University of Illinois, Jen assisted in helping her team make it to the D1 National Championship Match. During her time at Elon, she served on the LBGT Employee Resource Leadership Team, Elon University Presidential Task Force for Black Student, Faculty, and Staff Experiences, and the Elon University Implementation and Assessment Team for Black Student, Faculty, and Staff Experiences. While on the Elon University Presidential Task Force for Black Student, Faculty, and Staff Experiences, Fry and Professor Rodney Clare were able to develop and facilitate a focus group with black student-athletes to see if their experiences are the same or different in comparison to the general black student body. Jen’s passions of race and equality have taken her to workshops help by The Racial Equity Institute and Dismantling Racism and to co-facilitate a session at the American Volleyball Coaches Association Convention this December titled, “How Race Can Affect Your Team, Recruiting, and Your Campus.” Check out my blog www.jenfry.com or my Instagram JenFry13
