James Isaiah Gabbe

Writer, filmmaker, Army veteran, businessman, head of CITIZENARTS

Jim I. Gabbe is a filmmaker, writer, editor, publisher and communications professional who has written for newspapers, magazines, the movie industry, corporations and the U.S. Army. He has also been a university lecturer in journalism, advertising and business writing, is a professional photographer and is a former U.S. Army officer.

Jim is the founder of CITIZENARTS, a creator of educational programming, primarily in documentary form, that is both substantive and entertaining. It is a non-commercial endeavor that draws inspiration and guidance from an international Advisory Council and growing corps of volunteers in the U.S., Asia and Europe. CITIZENARTS is self-funding, independent and objective, and is not affiliated with any political, government or religious entity.

Forums for Jim’s documentary, A More – or Less – Perfect Union, which explores the state of union/disunion in the United States, are being held at campuses and elsewhere across the USA. His documentary on China, Journey with the Giant, is currently being presented throughout the U.S. and internationally. To the Mountaintops, a comparative exploration of China and India will be introduced in 2017. Projects in development include the documentaries Pacific Rendezvous, a look at the critically important relationship between China and the US as told by the people of those countries, and Whither Europe?, an exploration of Europe’s future global role.His historical work, The Universe of Union Square, was published in collaboration with Barnes & Noble booksellers. His other written works include the novel LaRue’s Maneuvers and MARCH, a dramatic play.

Jim participates in many educational forums and panels related to his documentary, book and theatrical work, having appeared at Brown University, Cal State Northridge, Cal State Los Angeles, Columbia University, Harvard University, London City University, University of North Texas, Northeastern University and Pepperdine University (in the U.S. and China), Shanghai-American School, among others, and at libraries, cultural centers, theaters and other venues.

A magna cum laude graduate of Northeastern University, Jim holds an M.A. in history from Brown University, an M.S. in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and is completing an M.S. Ed. in educational psychology at Columbia University Teachers’ College.
