Jonathan Kalan

Cofounder, Unsettled. TED Resident

Jonathan Kalan is a lifelong student of the unknown. A former foreign correspondent, photojournalist, editor, and media entrepreneur, he's explored the front lines of conflict, technology, and social movements in over 70 countries.

Throughout his career, he's worked and lived for extensive periods across Africa, the Middle East and Asia reporting for the BBC, The Atlantic, The New York Times, Foreign Policy, and Al Jazeera, among others

In 2014, as the founding Editor of Timeline.com Jonathan led the team that launched the first mobile news app designed to "break history", providing deep historical context to breaking news and current affairs. Timeline was selected as one of Apple's 25 Best Apps of 2015 and nominated for two Webbys in 2016 (Best News App and Best Visual Aesthetic).

Jonathan is currently a TED Resident, and cofounder of Unsettled, the first month-to-month global housing community for creatives, entrepreneurs, and people exploring transitions in life.
