Judith Sandalow

Executive Director, Children’s Law Center

Judith Sandalow leads Children’s Law Center, which fights for DC's children so every child can grow up with a loving family, good health and a quality education.

Under her leadership, Children's Law Center has grown from a three-person team to a staff of 100. The organization reaches 1 out of every 8 children in DC’s poorest neighborhoods – more than 5,000 children and families each year. And, it multiplies its impact by advocating for District-wide solutions that benefit all children. For more information, visit www.childrenslawcenter.org and www.facebook.com/DCCLC.

Judith graduated from Yale Law School in 1990 and was a Juvenile Justice Fellow at Georgetown University Law Center. After starting a juvenile clinic at DC Law Students in Court, she developed a successful criminal defense practice representing young people charged with serious crimes.

She also is a foster and adoptive parent who raised her two boys in DC—giving her a personal view on how to navigate the sometimes complicated bureaucracy that affects foster children in the District.

Judith is frequently cited in the media, including in CNN, the Legal Times, National Law Journal, Washington Post, WAMU, Washington Lawyer, WTOP, WUSA Channel 9, and elsewhere. She is also a board member of the Foster and Adoptive Parent Advocacy Center and chairs the Advisory Board of the DC Fiscal Policy Institute.
