Kelly Pemberton is Associate Professor of Religion and Women’s Studies at the George Washington University and a specialist on gender and Islam in Asia and the MENA (Middle East and North Africa). Her research has covered Sufi mysticism, Gender Activism, Islam and Extremism, questions of religious authority, and most recently, environmentalism in Muslim-majority countries. The author of Women Mystics and Sufi Shrines in India, her work has been published in academic journals, encyclopedias, and edited volumes. She is also a Country of Origin Information Expert for India, Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey and Expert Witness.
