Kevin Wong (@kevinwongnyc) is devoted to issues in bilingual education and supporting multicultural children in school and at home. Kevin taught for six years in an elementary school in Hong Kong, and worked extensively with Nepali children in an afterschool program. Frustrated by the discrepancy between language curriculum, education policy and the actual learning needs of inner city youth, Kevin came to New York to pursue a PhD in literacy education for immigrant populations. As an advocate for the linguistic and educational needs of language minority students, Kevin writes about the importance of leveraging bilingual education to foster cultural identity in the classroom.
