Lenore Anderson

Executive Director of Californians for Safety and Justice

Lenore Anderson is an attorney with extensive experience on criminal justice and public safety issues. She serves as Executive Director of Californians for Safety and Justice, a nonprofit working to replace prison and justice system waste with common sense solutions that create safe neighborhoods and save public dollars. In 2014, she coauthored Proposition 47 and chaired the successful Yes on 47 ballot campaign in California. Previously she served as the Chief of Policy for the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, the Director of Public Safety for the Oakland Mayor, and the Director of the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice for the Mayor of San Francisco. Lenore is also a co-founder and serves on the Board of Directors for the Center for Youth Wellness, an initiative to reduce the health impacts of chronic stress and trauma on urban youth. She holds a J.D. from NYU School of Law and a B.A. from UC Berkeley, and lives with her family in Oakland.
