Luke Baker

PhD Candidate in Developmental Biology, Born, Bow-tied, and Raised in Kentucky, Gay

Luke Baker is currently working diligently to finish his thesis on fruit fly eye development at Indiana University. Luke landed in the cornfields of Indiana after completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. Luke fondly remembers growing up in the wild fields of Western Kentucky and often reminisces about catching fireflies at the edge of the woods. Luke came out as gay in his first year of college over a glass of bourbon with his mom. Eventually, the whole family found out and Luke is happy and fortunate to report that his old Kentucky home was warm, welcoming, and open to the news. Though he may spend many hours in the lab working with fruit flies, Luke considers himself to be a runner, amateur fitness enthusiast, bullet-journaler, and he can dance pretty hard to Beyoncé's Get Me Bodied.
