Lwando Nteya
Ubuntu Education Fund Scholar

Orphaned at 11 years old, Lwando Nteya spent most his childhood alone in a shack trying to survive after losing his parents to HIV. In 2001, Lwando met Ubuntu Education Fund Deputy President, Gcobani Zonke, and Founder Jacob Lief and enrolled in the organization’s comprehensive health, education, and household stability programs. With Ubuntu’s help, he received a scholarship to the University of Cape Town, where he graduated in 2012. Lwando is completing his honors degree this year and will graduate in November.
