Mallory Hagan

Miss America, 2013

In January, Miss New York Mallory Hagan from Brooklyn was crowned Miss America 2013 at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, live on ABC! The final night of the 2013 Miss America Competition generated the best television ratings for the telecast in nearly a decade as Mallory stood with first runner up, Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers waiting for the distinguished panel of judges to announce the new Miss America. Mallory’s triumphant walk across the stage was just the beginning of a journey that will take her to every corner of the country during her year of service.

Mallory is promoting education and spending her year encouraging young women to pursue a college education as she focuses on science, technology, engineering, and math (also known as STEM) education. Miss America 2013 Mallory Hagan stated, “I hope to build on the national momentum to teach STEM curricula outside traditional school settings, targeting female students who are currently underrepresented in STEM professions. I know we can help shift girls’ attitudes about STEM and boost the percentage of women employed in STEM-related careers. This is the smart thing to do for America’s future.”

Miss America will travel approximately 20,000 miles each month speaking to audiences about her personal platform Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and is calling attention to this issue. She hopes to spread the message to children, parents, educators and lawmakers across the country that prevention is possible. “As Miss America, I will have an even greater opportunity to shine a national spotlight on this especially difficult and dark topic,” she stated.

To support the national platform partner of the Miss America Organization, Mallory is serving as the official National Goodwill Ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children’s hospitals. From flipping pancakes on National Pancake Day with IHOP to meeting some very special children in hospitals throughout the country, Mallory is helping to give hope to these miracle children. Mallory is a student at FIT and her scholastic ambition is to obtain a degree in the Field of Communications with an advertising and marketing concentration. Along with the title of Miss America 2013, Mallory has won a $50,000 Amway scholarship to continue her education. Mallory proudly represents the ideals that are woven in the history of Miss America and is creating her own legacy in the year ahead.
