Dr. Marc Hurlbert serves as BCRF’s Chief Mission Officer and oversees BCRF’s $57-million annual grants program focused on research to prevent, treat and cure breast cancer. Marc has a PhD in pharmacology and sixteen years of nonprofit experience. He utilized his skills to help fund and guide the development of new treatments with a patient-centered focus on research. Marc received his doctoral degree in pharmacology from the University of Colorado and bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Kansas. He then completed postdoctoral fellowship training at the NYU School of Medicine. In 2000, Marc ‘left the lab bench’ for a career as a scientific program officer in the nonprofit sector at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Prior to BCRF, Dr. Hurlbert led Avon’s Breast Cancer Crusade from 2004 to 2015.
