Marcus Brock

Media Field Strategist, GLAAD

Marcus Brock is a media field strategist at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) working closely with various community organizations, faith leaders, and activists. His work focuses on elevating inclusive and equitable media representations of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons of color in the national and mainstream dialogue.

Originally from Compton, Calif., Marcus has continually held an invested dialogue around the everyday political and social issues that affect people of color, particularly in the LGBT community. Prior to GLAAD, Marcus has done work across the non-profit landscape within entertainment, media, and inner-city arts education programs. He has conducted research projects on urban education as well as compiling oral histories and experiences of LGBT men of color -- engaging popular culture, media, and representations of gender, race, and sexual identity to mobilize social change.

Currently completing a Ph.D. in cultural studies at Stony Brook University, he teaches courses and conducts research that focuses on the intersections of race, "blackness," identity, and LGBT representations within the media and how "space" becomes the same place for division and unity within the larger movement for inclusion and equality. He also holds a B.A. in English from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a master's degree from the USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism.
