Maria Cognetti

President, American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers

As a member of the AAML for the past 25 years, Maria has previously served as a vice president, first vice president, and president-elect. She also chaired the Child Custody Evaluation Standards Committee and was a key player in an inaugural program presented jointly by the AAML and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC). In 2011, her successful work on a wide range of national issues was recognized by the AAML with the Fellow of the Year Award.

Throughout an esteemed 35-year legal career, Maria also had the honor of serving as president of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the AAML from 2003-2004. Within the state, she has regularly worked on efforts with the legislature, the courts and professional organizations, such as the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA), to effect positive change in the area of family law. The PBA honored her with a Special Achievement Award for her work on the recently passed Pennsylvania Custody Act and she also received a Presidential Service Award by the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.

Maria is founder of and currently practices at Cognetti & Associates. Based in Central Pennsylvania, the firm focuses exclusively on family law.
