Matt Zencey

Former assistant editorial page editor of the Philadelphia Inquirer

Zencey has worked at the Philadelphia Inquirer as assistant editorial page editor and a health and science editor, after a 21 year career in Alaska as an editorial writer and editorial page editor at the Anchorage Daily News. (Editorial writer: 1985-1997 and 2000 – 2007; editorial page editor, 2007 – 2010.) A five-time winner of Best Editorial Writing from the Alaska Press Club, Zencey edited and helped write a series of editorials about Sarah Palin’s candidacy for Vice-President, a project that won the Alaska Press Club Prize for Public Service in 2009. Zencey was a Nieman Fellow in Journalism at Harvard University, 1992-93. He now lives in West Chester, PA, where he is thawing out from Alaska winters, getting up to speed on Pennsylvania politics and working on a book about Sarah Palin due out this fall.
