Megan Epler Wood

Ecotourism pioneer, Author Sustainable Tourism on a Finite Planet, works at Harvard and Cornell to develop next generation strategies for sustainable tourism.

Megan Epler Wood works to make travel and tourism a more sustainable industry that both conserves environments and contributes to local people. Megan has worked as an NGO leader and consultant in some of the world’s most remote and significant parks and protected areas for over 25 years, contributing to the well-being of local people with projects in Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, throughout Central America, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Sri Lanka and India. As the Director of the International Sustainable Tourism Initiative at the Center for Health and the Global Environment at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Managing Director of the Sustainable Tourism Asset Management Program at the Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise at the Johnson School of Management at Cornell University, Her present research and writing seeks to launch a global effort to review and research how the trillion dollar travel economy can be managed with next generation research tools, improved business practices, and more accountability at the local level. Her book Sustainable Tourism on a Finite Planet was released in February 2017. She is presenting information in this blog and speaking at major events throughout the world on its key conclusions.
