Melissa Hillman is the Artistic Director of Impact Theatre in Berkeley, CA, a company that has specialized in new plays by emerging writers for 20 years. She holds a PhD in Dramatic Art from UC Berkeley, where she was a Pearl Hickman Fellow and was twice awarded the Mark Goodson Prize for Distinguished Theatrical Talent. In 2012, she was honored as one of Theatre Bay Area's "Faces of Bay Area Theatre," and in 2016, she was awarded the Gene Price Award for Professionalism and Passion in Bay Area Theatre by the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle. Melissa has been published in Theatre Bay Area Magazine, TCG Circle, Southern Theatre Magazine, and Quartz, and writes regularly for her own blog, Bitter Gertrude (bittergertrude.com). She's a contributor to "Audience (R)Evolutions: Dispatches from the Field," a new book from TCG edited by Caridad Svich.
