MiAngel Cody

Criminal defense lawyer, public commentator, and constitutional law expert

MiAngel Cody is a staff attorney for the Office of the Federal Defender in Chicago. She has defended hundreds of indigent persons. Many are guilty of committing some crime. Most are guilty of the simple possession of melanin. All are guilty of being poor. Her criminal practice ranges from trial and appellate representation to petitions for presidential clemency. Before becoming a lawyer, Ms. Cody was a capital mitigation investigator at the Georgia Resource Center. She spent seven years visiting men on death row in Louisiana and Georgia and listening to their stories. Ms. Cody believes the Sixth Amendment demands the highest caliber of representation to those with the least financial means, especially when their life or freedom is at stake.
