Cancer survivor, doc film producer, adventure guide, researcher
Mike Lang is a four year Hodgkins Lymphoma survivor from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Mike and his wife Bonnie worked for a number of years as adventure guides with “at risk” youth and since Mike’s cancer diagnosis in May 2008 have taken their passion for outdoor experiential education into the world of young adult cancer survivors. They are now the directors of an adventure therapy program for YA survivors called Survive & Thrive Expeditions and have filmed three expeditions making a full length doc, a short film and webseries (Valleys, coming soon) on different themes around being a young adult with cancer. Together Mike and Bonnie have facilitated over 35 retreats, conferences, adventure trips and activity-based support groups for YA survivors in the past four years.
Mike is also the CancerBridges Survivorship Program Coordinator with the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and is a full-time student at the University of Calgary in the MSc. Health Services Research program. Together Mike and Bonnie love to make inspiring, uplifting films, ski, rock climb, kayak and stand on top of big mountains. Follow @mikeylang on Twitter.
