Mercy Corps Regional Program Director for the Middle East
Nigel Pont is Mercy Corps Regional Program Director for the Middle East. He oversees programs in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Syria, the West Bank/Gaza and Yemen – countries in a period of dramatic transition, where there is significant opportunity for development. Pont is responsible for managing the agency’s regional strategy; ensuring that each country’s program operations are of the highest quality and standards; leading its response to any new crises; and cultivating positive staff, partner and donor relationships.
Pont recently completed a two-year fellowship in leadership development at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, which is part of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He managed the Center’s state-building and human rights program on Afghanistan and Pakistan, coordinating a team of fellows, conducting research and advocacy around international policy in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region and focusing on the effectiveness of public sector reform projects in the context of counterinsurgency warfare.
