Pramila Jayapal
Washington State Senator representing the 37th Legislative District

Pramila Jayapal is a Washington State Senator representing the 37th Legislative District, one of the most economically and racially diverse districts in the state. She was elected in November 2015. She has been an activist and advocate for immigrant, civil and human rights for more than two decades and is continuing her organizing within the state legislature. She She is the founder of OneAmerica, Washington state's largest immigrant rights organization, where she served as Executive Director for eleven years until May 2012, working on civil rights issues post-9/11, on federal immigration reform and on state campaigns to protect drivers licenses and in-state tuition for undocumented immigrants. She has been a Distinguished Taconic Fellow at the Center for Community Change, the Co-Chair of the We Belong Together campaign on women and immigration, and was named a White House Champion of Change for her activism on immigration and social justice issues. Pramila was born in India and came to the United States at the age of 16 by herself for college. She has a BA from Georgetown University and an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She is a proud mother and lives in Seattle.
