Rep. Tammy Baldwin

U.S. Representative from Wisconsin's 2nd Congressional District

Tammy Baldwin has represented Wisconsin’s Second Congressional District since January 1999.

In the 112th Congress, Congresswoman Baldwin serves on the Committee on Energy and Commerce, its Subcommittee on Health and its Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy.

Tammy Baldwin is a forceful advocate for the middle class who supports redirecting the resources spent on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to create jobs here at home and rebuild our economy. She supports strengthening and preserving Social Security and Medicare. She supports measures to reduce our nation’s budget deficit including ending the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and closing tax loopholes that encourage corporations to ship jobs overseas.

Baldwin was one of only a few Members of Congress who voted against repealing the Glass-Steagall Act, a Depression Era law which prevented banks from engaging in high risk investments. Its repeal was a significant factor in the 2008 financial collapse. She was an early opponent of the war in Iraq and supports bringing our troops safely home from Afghanistan as soon as possible.

The Co-founder and Co-Chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, Congresswoman Baldwin is known nationally as a forceful supporter of civil rights and an advocate for those in our society whose voices, too often, are not heard.

Born and raised in Madison, WI, Baldwin is a graduate of Smith College and the University of Wisconsin Law School. Prior to entering Congress, she served on the Dane County (WI) Board Supervisor and in the Wisconsin State Assembly where she served three terms.

Tammy Baldwin was the first woman to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives from Wisconsin and the first openly gay non-incumbent elected to Congress.

Baldwin is a candidate for the U.S. Senate from Wisconsin.
