ABOUT THE AUTHOR
The award-winning writing and poetry of Susan Baller-Shepard has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, the Washington Post’s "On Faith” section, Spirituality & Health, Writer’s Digest, and other publications. Her poetry has been regularly featured on WGLT-FM radio. Susan blogs for the Huffington Post Religion and Style sections, for Joan Chittister's Monasteries of the Heart blog, and she has written for the Tattooed Buddha. She is co-founder and editor of Spiritual Book Club, and facilitated a local interreligious spiritual book club for seventeen years.
Susan was part of the undergraduate Writer's Workshop at the University of Iowa, has a master’s degree in divinity, and has been an ordained Presbyterian minister for twenty-five years. She also has a master’s degree in social work. Susan served as a pastor for numerous churches in central Illinois, and in leadership positions at the Presbytery and Synod levels. She's been the recipient of leadership awards, including most recently, a nomination for the McLean County (IL) Chamber of Commerce Athena Leadership Award.
Along with local involvement, Susan has worked on international development projects in Haiti, China, and Brazil. She also has served as keynote speaker at national and international conferences, and presented at the University of Iowa’s Carver Medical School for the “Examined Life Conference,” which bridges medicine and the humanities.
Susan teaches Literature of the Bible and Major World Religions at Heartland Community College in Normal, Illinois, and lives in Bloomington, Illinois with her family. She tweets @yoursbc.
