State Senator representing California’s 33rd Senate District

Ricardo Lara is a State Senator representing California’s diverse 33rd Senate District. He chairs the influential Senate Appropriations Committee and is past chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus which works to identify, promote and advocate on behalf of the professional, educational, social, political and cultural interests of the Latino Community.

Senator Lara made history when he was elected with over 80% of the vote and became the first openly gay person of color in the California State Senate. He has fought to improve the quality of life for all Californians by authoring legislation to create jobs, create equal opportunities for working families and students, improve access to a quality education and promote immigrant rights.
