Director of Hispanic engagement for First Book

Roxana Barillas serves as director of Hispanic engagement for First Book, a nonprofit social enterprise that has provided over 115 million books to kids through its network of over 100,000 educators, librarians and program leaders serving children in need. Prior to joining First Book, she served as part of President Obama’s Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships initiative as Deputy Director of the US Department of Agriculture’s Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, where she conducted outreach to underserved communities in the areas of nutrition and rural development. where she worked with nonprofits, faith-based and secular, to better serve the needs of communities in the areas of nutrition and rural development as well as advancing First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative. Prior to her federal service, she was policy advisor at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, where she worked on global and domestic poverty issues for nine years.
