Ruth Martin has over 12 years of experience working in progressive politics and advocacy. She is currently a campaign director at, an online and on-the-ground grassroots organization of more than a million people who are working to achieve economic security for all families in the United States. MomsRising is working for paid family leave, flexible work options, affordable child care, and for an end to the wage and hiring discrimination which penalizes so many mothers. MomsRising also advocates for health care for all, toxic-free environments, and breastfeeding rights so that all children can have a healthy start. Prior to MomsRising, Ruth worked at Planned Parenthood Federation of America where she led the organization’s efforts to increase the public affairs capacity of affiliates by strengthening relationships with policy makers and building a network of pro-choice and pro-family planning elected officials. At the Women’s Campaign Forum, Ruth established and led new initiatives including an online bundling program to increase women’s political giving in the 2008 election and “Appoint Her,” a campaign encouraging women to seek appointed office. Before joining WCF, Ruth directed People For the American Way’s state policy and grassroots advocacy with a focus on election reform issues. Ruth has worked on grassroots, advocacy and legislative campaigns in nearly two dozen states.
