Scott Cairns is Professor of English at University of Missouri, Founding Director of Writing Workshops in Greece http://www.writingworkshopsingreece.com/, and a faculty poet for the Seattle Pacific University low-residency MFA program. His poems and essays have appeared in Poetry, Image, Paris Review, The Atlantic Monthly, The New Republic, Spirituality and Health, The Christian Century, etc., and both have been anthologized in multiple editions of Best American Spiritual Writing. Of his ten published books, the most recent poetry collections are Idiot Psalms, 2014 and Slow Pilgrim: The Collected Poems, 2015; his spiritual memoir, Short Trip to the Edge, appeared in 2007; Paraclete Press will publish an updated edition of the memoir in 2016. His book-length essay, The End of Suffering: Finding Purpose in Pain, appeared in 2009. His translations, Endless Life: Poems of the Mystics, appeared in paper this year from Paraclete Press. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2006, and the Denise Levertov Award in 2014.
