Originally from Seattle, I went to Dartmouth College, where I majored in Arabic. The day after I graduated in 2011, I flew to Egypt for a one-year masters at the American University of Cairo. While there, I joined a parkour team, over-rotated a flip, and broke my neck. I moved to New York City still wearing a plastic neck brace and spent the following year applying to graduate school. Thankfully, I recovered completely, and in 2013, I moved to Iowa to start the Nonfiction Writing Program. Among other things, I wrote about tarot card readers, subway buskers, and the show "American Greed." In May of 2016, I moved back to New York. I now live in Brooklyn, freelance for a living, and am the resident blogger for my gym, CrossFit Virtuosity. I focus mainly on language, politics, and fitness.
