Toby Storie-Pugh

Toby Storie-Pugh, 39, is a New York and London-based explorer and social entrepreneur. Combining his drive to seek adventure and the need to affect positive change in the world, he leads world-class expeditions that are leveraged to create significant and sustainable social impact. He believes in the power of collaboration, and seeks out partners who are passionate advocates for social causes. Read more about his work at his website Nil Timent. Named after Toby’s family motto, Nil Timent means Fear Nothing in Latin.

In Spring 2014, he led an expedition team that included Steve Obbayi, the first Kenyan to attempt to summit Mount Everest. The expedition was cancelled following the avalanche of 18 April. The pair return to Everest in 2015 for a second attempt.

In late 2015, Toby will lead the world’s first attempt to walk the 2,920 length of the Congo River.

A failed medical exam that kept him out of the British military and two long solo motorcycle trips led Toby to Kenya in 2006. He spent a month volunteering with two friends in the slums of Nairobi, where they were inspired by the leadership qualities of several orphaned children. The trio co-founded Flying Kites, a school and home for orphans in Kenya that same year. With the goal of improving the standards of care and education for these kids, Flying Kites offers children an opportunity to rise out of the circumstances they were born into and allows them to achieve their full potential. After only 7 years of operation, the Flying Kites school is currently ranked 1st or 2nd in the region in every class.
