Wa Lone

Wa Lone, a journalist and photographer based in Yangon, Myanmar, writes for the Myanmar Times, where he was embedded with the Aspen Institute’s investment delegation this past April to experience first-hand what it was like for foreign investors to be introduced to Myanmar. Wa Lone contributes news and features with a focus on politics for the English and Burmese versions of the Myanmar Times weekly journal, and has over three years experience as a reporter and a freelance photojournalist with the Myanmar media. Previously, Wa Lone worked for the People’s Age Journal and Mizzima newspaper. Born in Khin U, a small town in Sagaing Division in Northern Myanmar, Wa Lone studied geography in Mon State at Mawlamyine University. After becoming a journalist, Wa Lone joined the Myanmar Development of Journalism School in Yangon and specialized in advanced journalism and the history of Myanmar politics.

In 2012, Wa Lone studied photography at the French Institute in Yangon and focused on peace and conflict. Wa Lone specializes in photo essays and documentaries on issues facing society in Myanmar, and was selected to join the Peace and Conflict Journalism Network in the Philippines last year. In addition to his work in journalism, Wa Lone also works as a volunteer for an education and disaster assistance organization called the Benevolent Youth Organization based in Yangon.
