The opening reception for an exhibition featuring recent photographs by Roe Ethridge. In this exhibition, Ethridge juxtaposes polished photographs of posed models with gritty still lifes of ashtrays and the grainy pages of a newspaper. With a democratic attitude, Ethridge works to capture the intimate details of shifting locales within photography's classic genres of portrait, landscape, and still life.
Mark Morrisroe: Conversation and Book Presentation

Celebration of the work of the late photographer Mark Morrisroe, and the recent publication of a survey of Morrisroe's career documenting Boston's punk scene and the underbelly of 1980s New York. Ramsey McPhillips and Lynelle White will join in conversation at 6pm, to be followed by a reception featuring Morrisroe's works and ephemera from McPhillips's collection.

The fifth annual ART for CLARE fundraiser benefiting the CLARE Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to providing recovery services to the Santa Monica and Venice area. The benefit will feature a silent auction, as well as an art auction featuring works by Anthony Hopkins, Billy Al Bengston, Ed Ruscha, and many more. Tickets may be purchased online.

The opening day of an exhibition featuring installations by Los Angeles' young design talent, who take over the museum's galleries, storage closets, and bathroom. This year's COME IN! fuses with the L.A. themes of Surf, Skate, and Bike.

Can Redistricting Improve California?

Zocalo Public Square hosts a discussion on the upcoming California redistricting process in August. Participants include: Kathay Feng, Steven Ochoa, Joe Mathews, and Dan Schnur, and moderator Jessica Levinson. The conversation will explore the possibilities for increased representation, the reduction of political polarization, and what redistricting means for California and its people. Will these new maps actually change the state's political landscape?
