What I Have Learned About Letting Go

In today's audio recording, I speak on the power of letting go to make room for that which you want. I have realized it's so much easier to discuss our dreams and our desires, because it's fun, exciting, pretty and uplifting. We live in a culture that is uncomfortable with death, uncomfortable discussing the raw and authentic messy truth of life. The same goes when discussing our dreams.

It's key to visualize your dreams and the beautiful picture that you want to create. It's even more key, I find, to focus on what you are willing to give up and work for to have that pretty dream come true.

You don't walk into the gym and snap your fingers and expect to have a six pack and toned body. You know that you will have to put in the work and train. Go in and stretch your muscles and your mindset, and work hard to have those fitness goals achieved. The dream body on a vision board is great, but the hard work is the part that you need to get geared up for. Because it's the hard work that usually stops people from achieving their dreams. It's important to not set up false expectations on life, because then you set yourself up for unrealistic expectations, get discouraged and give up.

I find it much more psychologically savvy to be authentically honest about the process -- the WHOLE MESSY PROCESS. So let's make this practical. Let's say you want to have a healthy relationship, but you continue to go back to that no-good guy who you know doesn't value you enough and you know you are just settling for. How can you make room for the healthy kind of love you desire? You can't put enough pictures on your vision board without doing the inner work. And the inner work is hard and grueling sometimes. It's like labor -- contractions, pain and then bliss. So, my point is to know your desires and then ask yourself:

What am I truly willing to give up?
What am I willing to do to have that desire come to fruition?

Some things you might have to let go of to birth your desires are:

  • Old thoughts that don't deserve you
  • Toxic, unhealthy people that you are just settling for
  • A job that doesn't light you up
  • A home that doesn't suit you any longer
  • Behaviors that aren't aligned to your true soul desires

This is a shedding process.

This is an internal way to make room and space for the new. A cleansing. This will require courage, willpower and dedication. Call upon the divine -- or your higher self, if that's not your jam, and commit to doing this for you. Being comfortable in the old is normal; we all feel comfortable playing safe, but daring and leaping to what we truly desire is what life is for. Will it be scary? Yes. Will it be difficult at times? Yes. But will it be worth it? For sure!
