CHARLESTON, MYRTLE BEACH, AND COASTAL SOUTH CAROLINA
Airfares to Myrtle Beach are down 33% on average compared to last fall, says Melisse Hinkle of Cheapflights.com, and hotel rates this season are, on average, down more than 30% compared to summer, according to data from the hotel site Trivago. About 100 miles down the coast, Condé Nast Traveler readers' favorite city in the U.S., Charleston, is also "a deal destination in the making," Hinkle says, thanks to an airport expansion in the works and increased low-cost airline service. The draws go beyond affordable airfares, though, with great hotels in Charleston like Restoration on King and HarbourView Inn. To eat? Atlanta Journal-Constitution restaurant critic John Kessler likes The Ordinary, on Upper King, "just north of the well-touristed city center."
